Det här är mitt utkast till missionssöndagens predikan i Baptistkyrkan hudiksvall. Utkastet är på engelska eftersom vi översätter från engelska till burmesiska eller karen. Först kommer här söndagens text:
When i was a student in the gymnasium my teacher in religion once asked the class how many disciples there were. Someone asked 12 and she said it was the correct answer. I raised my hand and said that I disagree. I belive there are millions of disciples and that one of them is me. She started to argue with me and said that only the 12 around Jesus was allowed to be called disciples. I quoted this passage but she still said that I was wrong.
But the next lesson she apologized to me, she had looked it up by herself in the bible, and she realized that I was right: I am a disciple – because I am following Jesus, time doesn’t matter. The teachings of Jesus has been passed on through the time and is still making new disciples all over the world. And one result of that is that we today have the honor to accept new members into our church.
TO BECOME A DISCIPLE is easy. Two things is necessary: To turn around and to follow. To turn around is to realize that the world is a hard place to live in. That we need help in finding the righteous path in a world that glorifies selfishness and fame. To follow is to realize that Jesus actually is the way and to search for his will with our lifes.
TO BE A DISCIPLE is a bit harder. Only one thing is necessary: Stay close to Jesus. The problem is that sometimes Jesus wants to go places where you don’t want to. He likes to hang out with the poor and the lonely, sometimes you will have to walk on water, meaning to do things that you don’t think is possible.
But it is worth it, because staying close to Jesus will change your life and you will become more and more like him the closer and longer you are to him.
TO MAKE NEW DISCIPLES is the hardest thing, but it is also what Jesus commands us to do. Only one thing is necessary: Be like Jesus. Only when we show people with our lifes what it can make to a human to be a disciple can we make disciples. That’s why Jesus wanted his disciples around all the time, so that they would see how he lived and therefore become more like him.
To be a follower of Jesus is relevant to the people in Sweden 2010 but nothing we can say will convince anyone to turn around. We need to show with our lifes how much Jesus loves every man. We need to show with our lifes what becoming a disciple is all about. Lets not keep God’s love within ourselves. Lets show the world the love of God.
That’s how to make disciples!
